I was allowed to change the permissions to full control for administrators and users for the winsxs folder and the copy completed.   The folder "x86_microsoft-windows-networktopology-inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_3821e712a6535c57" is now in the winsxs folder. Do you know if my model is one of those that were blocked? I decided to uninstall it to compare networking fixes. I suspect that it may actually be a recent Windows update  that is causing the Dells to crash. his comment is here This is apparently due to a corrupt download, so I got the stand-alone installer, and now I finally have SP1.   Sorry again, should've have at least saved the log file No further replies will be accepted. truecrime, Sep 15, 2016, in forum: Windows Vista Replies: 7 Views: 411 flavallee Sep 17, 2016 Windows Update Advice KidGoat, Sep 11, 2016, in forum: Windows Vista Replies: 2 Views: 355
