But... A couple of tricks that have helped me... You've had your money's worth out of the machine. https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/setup-cannot-copy-the-file-while-installing-windows-xp-sp2-251354/ Before, I installed Xp from my CD many times without problems.
I didn't read the whole thread again, so if this is a silly question, so what? I have 32 bit XP Home on my desktop (P4 3.4Ghz) with 4Gb ram of which it recognises 3.5Gb. Nope still doesnt like it. But if it fails on different files that can also mean you have some bad RAM.
We don't support this API version. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/884675 I tried all the following fixes but still get the error :1. When attempting to install ME again, I had similar copying errors, but found a txt file on the CD which had detailed instructions to solve this kind of problem. Is this plagiarism? Within a few minutes I also received an email verifying all the information. A lot of the time this file can't be copied, but other times i've tried, it has copied! http://discusswire.com/windows-xp/windows-xp-installation-error-cannot-copy-file.html I figured if I had no errors I could rule it out as the problem but everything seems to point directly at the ram as the culprit.

I thought I got a bad bunch of bad cd's or a couple of defective drives but when put in my Compaq workstation(poineer DVD rom) they read fine.
It may not be getting to the bad area with Linux. I did not think that would work, but did (on a non-fatal) unreadable file XP install issue. You could also lay waste to anything potentially harmful on the drive with, "Darik's Boot and Nuke" :http://www.dban.org/download Here's a couple of prior threads about it: http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/wipe-hard-drive-dariks-boot-and-nuke.132670/ http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/dariks-boot-and-nuke-or-another-software.213559/ @baaz2004 also has Its had several graphics card replacements.
or substitute an old slow CDROM drive during the install. Because you need to clear the HDD via a complete reformat, then try to install Windows. Why not read it up ? his comment is here My hard drive is a SATA.
I repeated this until I had tested each module individually. I hooked it up to my computer and when I try to install winXP on the hard-drive I get the same errors.
